Spinner
Mathematics Write-up
Spinner
Problem Statement:
In this problem we were tasked at finding the probability of a spinner divided into 4 parts. There are two people. One with 3 sides of the spinner and the other with one side. Every Time it lands on one of the 3 that person gets .30 cents and when it lands on the 1 slide, the person gets 1.25$
Process:Describe what you did in attempting to solve the problem. Do this part even if you did not solve the problem.
Well I spun the spinner 25 times and recorded my answers. What I got was 7 times on the 1 slice and 18 times on the 3
Solution:
State the solution clearly as you can. Explain how you know your answer is correct.
I took my research and multiplied the amount by how many times i got it:
1.25$ X 7 = 8.75 and .30 cents X 18 = 5.4
So in the long run you can see that even though only one spot on the spinner that gives your 1.25, it pays off in the long run. So it would be a much better Idea to “Bet” on that one.
Connection:
What is the relationship between Expected Value, Observed Weighted Probability, & Theoretical Weighted Probability? What are some real-life examples in which these concepts are being used?
There are a lot of real life applications of these, like a Weighted GPA and I believe that it can be found in the weather forecast.
Evaluation:Discuss your personal reaction to the problem.
- What did you learn from it?
- How would you change the problem to make it better?
- Did you enjoy working on it?
- Was it too hard or too easy?
