PPP - Humanities
Humanities is where we did most of our social issue research and writing. This was a major project and thus had a major planning phase where students (Including me) would take a week or two to look at one side of an issue, for example one week was education the next week, day laborers. Each week was another topic that contributed to an issue of inequality / privilege. Then once the planning phase was over and all of the students had a good idea on each of the issue, we were able to pick a topic and a job and this is where an issue presented itself with the project, I originally picked islamaphobia but that was changed without much input from me to gender inequality. Which is an issue just not the one I really wanted to focus on I feel that in the future teachers could offer more independent options if something has to be switched an a student is not super into it. Anyways I went with gender equality and the next step was for us to do 5 pages of research notes on our topic to be used at a later date

We were then arranged into groups pertaining to our job, as a panelist I was grouped with other panelists who were also doing gender inequality once into these groups each of us were tasked with writing a position paper 5 pages minimum on our topic using the research notes previously created. Which is something I'm super happy we did as having done the reaserch early made it really easy to compile it and write a nice position paper.

Before I move on to what I did next I would like to take a minute to reflect on the process of the position paper, not the writing process but the group process. As a group we had an assigned date to be done so that we could all get critique from each other. Yet some of our group members did not finish their position papers till the day of our event! Which made our argument weaker in a sense as we wouldn't know our peers position on the topic as well as we should. Though I will say that writing the position paper was an experience and I'm very happy how mine came out and I'm also happy we got to write it, I enjoyed it.
After writing the position paper my group was tasked with creating an opening statement to be said on the night of our symposium. Might I mention this project was to be held as a large symposium with multiple panels covering multiple topics such as Islamophobia, day labors, wealth inequality and so on. All these panels were backed up by multiple math groups who would provide graphic evidence for a panelists claims. There were also spoken word performances and one act plays depicting certain issues a panel was covering. As I was saying we were tasking with righting an opening statement that accurately showed our views on the topic at hand.

Overall I really enjoyed the project it was much more fun then I originally expected as I was able to share my view and opinions on certain topics in front of an audience and with my peers. I enjoyed writing my position paper and doing extensive research on many topics as discussing is something I enjoy to do especially when well educated on a topic. What I think would be good to do in the future is allow a lot more individual freedom as I know me and a few others would have loved to discuss 2nd amendment rights or something of that nature, just allow groups to decide on what they want and see how it goes as most students would be very passionate about what they picked. I really enjoyed the project as a whole especially the writing.
